Case Study: Pharmex – Simplifying Pharmacy Interactions For 80 milionies people

The Challenge: Creating a User-Centric Pharmacy Platform

When I joined Pharmex, our vision was clear: to become the leading platform for connecting drugstores across Iran. The challenge was multifaceted – we needed to simplify the administrative dashboard for effortless management, ensure a seamless user experience for non-technical users, and enable efficient tracking of inventory and expiration dates. Our mission was to simplify the process without compromising functionality, all within the RTL (Right-to-Left) website framework.

My Role: Full Stack Developer with a Frontend Focus

As a full-stack developer with a particular emphasis on frontend development, my goal was to craft an intuitive user experience. I was part of a diverse team comprising two doctors, an IT manager, another full-stack developer, and a technical product manager. My contributions were geared toward making the platform accessible to users of all ages and tech-savviness, ensuring that even those with minimal technical knowledge could easily navigate and utilize the system.

Research: Understanding User Behavior and Technical Constraints

Our research spanned a broad user demographic, from ages 28 to 75, delving into their interactions with technology and the difficulties they faced, such as internet reliability and security concerns. To enhance productivity and minimize confusion, we opted for a simplified step-by-step guide that enabled users to complete actions in just four clicks. This approach not only made the process memorable but also accessible.

Pain Points: Catering to Non-Technical Users

The most significant pain point was adapting the system for non-technical users. We needed to streamline processes such as adding new items, tracking orders, and making purchases into a few simple steps. Our solution? A four-click process that encapsulated the entire user journey from selection to purchase.

Feature and Product Ideas: Simplifying Each Step

We brainstormed various approaches to simplify the user flow. The process was divided into four distinct steps: selecting drugs, arranging delivery, processing payment, and tracking the order. For adding new products, we ensured:

  1. High visibility and accessibility of the 'Add New Item' button.
  2. Real-time bilingual search functionality.
  3. Automated categorization of products.
  4. Clear display of availability and expiration dates.

Validation and Prototyping: Refining the User Experience

We employed various methods to test our ideas, from tracking user clicks to analyzing behavioral patterns. Our prototypes were iteratively refined based on user interviews and feedback. This approach allowed us to hone in on the most effective and user-friendly design.

Final Design: A Visual and Functional Showcase

The final design is a testament to our user-centered approach, with enhanced functionality and a visually appealing interface. The admin panel dashboard is not only efficient but also a delight to navigate. Our commitment to providing a seamless user experience is evident in the increased user interaction with special offers by 25% and a 50% rise in new item additions.

Conclusion: Measurable Success and Ongoing Growth

Pharmex has successfully established itself as a user-friendly platform, as indicated by our product metrics and positive feedback from both customers and business leaders. This project has been a profound learning experience for me, underscoring the value of simplicity in design and the importance of user feedback. Looking ahead, we aim to build on this success, continuously refining our platform and exploring new features to further streamline pharmacy interactions in Iran.
